10/27/10 New Hampton Race info
Hi All,
Thanks to everyone for a great season so far! Hopefully we will have a great finish at Burleigh Mountain. Here are the details (very similar to last year):
Wednesday, October 27
3:30 start.
Course is basically the same as last year, with some changes (I hope improvements) far from the start/finish; it is well-marked.
The gate will be open and you can park, register, and preview the course starting by 2:00 pm
Update your rosters on the web site.
A note about parking:
There is limited parking at Burleigh mountain. If you park in the grassy lot, please park carefully so as to leave as much room as possible for other vehicles.
If you (or a spectator associated with your school) arrive late, you may need to park on Gordon Hill Rd (the paved road). Please do not park anywhere on the dirt access road (New Hampton School does not own that road, and the landowner has complained in the past). Thank you.
Directions:
To get to Burleigh:
From the North, get off I-93 at exit 23, make a left off the ramp and an immediate right on Shingle Camp Hill Road (before you go under the interstate).
Take Shingle Camp Hill Rd less than a mile to a stop sign in front of a church (the campus will be on your right). Take a left on Rt 132; take this less than a mile to Gordon Hill Road. Take a right on Gordon Hill, drive to the top of the hill and take a left on the dirt road that says "Private road, right to pass by permission" or something like that. Go through the gate and park a little ways up in the grassy field on the right. The start finish area is a little ways past the parking area.
From the South, get off I-93 at exit 23, make a left off the ramp, go under the interstate and take an immediate left on Shingle Camp Hill Road. Follow the directions above.
From the East, drive west on 104 (from Meredith) until you pass under I-93 (a little after and Irving on the right and Duncan Donuts on the left). Immediately after going under the interstate take a left on Shingle Camp Hill Road. Follow the directions above.
From the West, drive east on 104 (from Bristol) until you come to a blinking yellow light by a fire station. Turn right on Rt 132 here. You will drive by the campus (it will be on your left). In less than a mile you will come to a white church. Keep going; less than a mile past this you will take a right on Gordon Hill Rd. Drive to the top of the hill and take a left on the dirt road that says "Private road, right to pass by permission" or something like that. Go through the gate and park a little ways up in the grassy field on the right. The start finish area is a little ways past the parking area.

Here’s the lap info:
Format will be:
A riders: 3 laps
B riders: 2 laps
C-G riders: 1 lap
Figuring about a 20 min lap plus or minus depending on the individual's speed. One of our fast guys did the lap in 15 minutes.. but it was a single lap....
The course will alternate between single track and then double track passing zones...
The start will begin on the open wood road to allow everyone ample time to find a safe position before entering into the single track...

Fall High School Mountain Bike Racing Leagues
There will be two separate high school mountain bike racing series this fall, one primarily in Maine and the other in New Hampshire and Vermont:
The Maine series is called the Maine High School Mountain Bike Series. Here's the website: http://mehsmtbseries.blogspot.com/ and here's their tentative schedule for the 2010 season:
9/18 @ Camden
9/25 @ open date
10/9 @ CVA 3:30pm
10/16 @ Gould
10/23 @ KHS 3:30pm
10/30 @ (Championship?)
The schools involved are Gould, Kents Hill School, Carrabassett Valley Academy, Camden/Rockland public high school. They also welcome kids from anywhere in the state public school system, even as individuals. All races have a Varsity and a JV bracket with female riders racing in the same race as boys at either level. JV racers go a shorter distance than varsity with the goal of having both races go for about the same amount of time (45 minutes to 1 hour). Most races involve multiple laps of a given course.
The NH/VT series is called the Lake Region HS Mountain Bike Series. Here's the website: https://sites.google.com/site/lakesregionmtb/ and here's their tentative 2010 race schedule:
Sept 22 Proctor Academy
Sept 29 Kennett High School
Oct 6 Vermont Academy
Oct 13 Fryeburg Academy
Oct 20 Okemo Mt School ?
Oct 27 New Hampton School.
Killington Mountain School will be aiming for this series as well.
For those kids interested in cyclo-cross, keep an eye on bikereg.com listings in your region and definitely try to hit some of the verge series races: http://www.cxmagazine.com/2010-verge-new-england-cyclo-cross-schedule
